Shocking CCTV footage shows New York’s top jail warder brutally beating handcuffed inmate in savage 20 second attack
Shocking CCTV footage of New York State’s top jail warder savagely beating a handcuffed and pepper-sprayed inmate was released this week.
The brutal video shows Tioga County Jail’s Lt David Monell punching David Coffey, who is sitting down chained to a wooden bench, at least six times in the head.
He is then seen grabbing his orange jump-suited victim around the throat, choking him for 10 seconds, before hauling him up against a wall.
Although the film is silent, witnesses said Monell is believed to have said ‘you’re going to regret this day’ before launching into the June 2010 attack which left his target with a gouged eye.
Coffey, who had been pepper-sprayed moments before the video begins, also suffered an infection that went untreated for months in jail.
Abrasions were left on his face and neck, and he had a severely swollen jaw after the assault.
Following the beating, Coffey filed a federal lawsuit against Monell – who was bizarrely handed New York State Senate’s 2010 Correction Officer of the Year award a day later.
But footage of the attack was obtained by investigators a day after the award, leading to his resignation.
The video was kept secret until a campaign by local newspaper the Press & Sun Bulletin forced it to be released. Read more: Dailymail
