Trio arrested in Rotterdam house bombings
ROTTERDAM – Rotterdam Police have arrested three people in connection with five separate incidents of arson bombing of a home on Claremont Avenue in the towns High Bridge area.
According to police Larry J. Ahrens, 33, paid Michael D. Chambers, 33, and Amy L. Brzoza, 31, to throw explosive devices at a house where his ex-girlfriend was residing with her new boyfriend.
Police say Ahrens paid Chambers $100 each time he threw an explosive device at the house causing damage.
On Sunday, officers from the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms were conducting surveillance of the home when a car drove by and tossed an explosive device onto the roof, where it exploded.
Officers immediately attempted to pull over the car, which gave a brief chase before it hit a car occupied by the Rotterdam police chief.
Police arrested Chambers and Brzoza. Ahrens was arrested Monday morning.
All three defendants have been charged with first-degree arson two counts of third-degree arson.
